2003 Questions for all other cars Engine malfunction light

After driving through flooded waters four days ago my engine misfires and the engine malfunction light comes on and then goes off. I have continued to drive the car but the misfiring is getting worse. What is wrong has water entered somewhere? My car is a MG ZR (Rover)

I would first get a scan done to see what fault code has been set, and take the air cleaner out and check that it is not water logged and that water has not entered the induction system, start there and report back your findings.
