1997 Questions for all other cars 117000 miles

hi I have a rover 620 with the honda engine I think my timing belt has broken could you tell me if it is repairable or will there be damage to the pistons etc I had a ford siera years ago and the same happened but I changed the belt and there was no damage done thanks for your time, its just that I dont want to start the repair only to find that I cant do it cheers. Ray, There may not be damage to the pistons, but if the motor was made by Honda, there is a real possibility that several valves contacted the pistons and untold damage may have occurred, I would consider your options before attempting repairs.

Hi ray,

It depends on the situation when the belt snapped. At low engine rpm it should not cause any problem but at high rpm, you need a miracle for it not to happen.

If you are worried the valves might be bent, lower the pistons before turning the camshaft and check the valve clearances.

If any of them is abnormally large, then the valves might be bent.
