When was your last tune up. Complete change of all spark plugs, new cap and rotor. Is your van a TBI unit or Fuel Injection. Vortec motor? If you can hear the fuel pump running then your problem will be "electronic" related. Try changing your plugs, cap and rotor. Under the cap check for excessive amounts of rust around the base of the distributor. Use 100 grit minimum strips of sandpaper to clean off the rotor shaft, don't forget the top. Vacuum this dust out. Wipe it clean and ensure it it dry. Install your new rotor and cap.

I would also check fuel pressure and regulator. Just to prove your fuel system.
