The car is a 1996 VW Jetta with 138000 miles on it. Manual. Gas 2.0. The problem is that the AC will work until the engine comes up to normal operating temp. Then it shuts off? The fans both come on along with the compressor the charge is good I had it checked. The problem started when I cleaned and detailed the car for my daughter last summer.I used a garden hose and some gunk to clean the engine.I also cleaned out the drain hose for the evaporator inside the car on the passenger side. Could I have loosened a wire or something? My mechanic has been working on VW's and Mercedes for 30 + years and never heard of it. I would like to fix it myself I love a mystery but the heat is brutal !

Guessing it sounds like a temp sending unit. Maybe a wire off or shorted?. Do both fans quit when the compressor does? Check the wires from the fans sending unit back to the high or low cut out switches and down to the compressor Is there a A/C Relay some were? I am not real up on VW's systems
Let me know. I hope I helped.
