I have a piece of junk 1995 peugeot (American living in Europe). Keys are missing and radiator is frozen solid. Can I tell if there is engine damaged without starting the car? Key replacement is expensive. Car has aluminium block. It is 1.0 liter and has had a recent engine rebuild (new valves rings head gasket). I want to know if I should get new keys or just sell for scrap. Car value is about $1,500 or 1,000 euros.

Hi there,

I feel you will be up for some repairs, but you just won't know untill it thaws out. The radiator will just about be stuffed, the core plugs may start to leak, some may have popped already, Things like hoses may need to be replaced, but internal damage will be hard to tell untill the things run. The key will be an issue, but you can start it with out a key for test purposes (steering lock will stay engaged that all)

The repair costs may very well exceed the cost of the car, so for you, is it worth spending that money.
