Long story short: Dealer said I needed new outer tie rods but wanted over 200.00. I purchased them from an auto parts store for about 20.00 each and a friend put them on. (The outer boots on the old ones were shot.) Everything seems to be working fine (no pulling) but the steering wheel is no longer straight when the car is going straight. It's turned about 45 degrees from what it used to be when the car is pointing straight ahead. Is that something that I should be concerned about?

Any time you have any repair work like that done, I would have the car aligned. That said, they will be able to correct the steering wheel alignment.

Now if you don't wish to get it aligned, you can pull of the air bag with the four screws at the back of the steering wheel and remove the steering wheel and reposition it.
