This is actually my mothers car, so I'm not sure when this problem actually started, but I started driving it about 2 months ago and it seems to have developed this problem primarily since then, the transmission won't always shift in drive, its intermittent and I don't see any pattern, it sometimes happens when cold, sometimes hot, sometimes it won't shift for a long time or it will shift fairly quickly. Okay, whats my question? Is it conceivable that given the age of the car, and low mileage it could just need a new filter and fluid change? I under stand any part could go out at any age or mileage, but wouldn't it be unusual for the transmission to go out at that mileage? Also, could I benefit from an additive that is reported to assist in shifting? If so, what type/brand do you suggest? Thanks for any help!

Any car with 84,000 miles should have had 2 trans fluid changes by now! What color is the fluid? Pink or brown. Brown is bad. Change all fluid transmission and torque converter too. While your under there check all electrical plugs!

Merlin,
Thanks for the info, the fluid is still pinkish-red, a little darker than new but still very pink and there is no loss of fluid, every time I check it, it is still at the proper level, and as I stated before the car is my mothers and I don't know about fluid changes (I'm sure she doesn't know either, my father took care of those issues and we lost him just lately.
