I think I'm having the same problem with my 1990 Corolla, 180K miles. The last tune up was March 2006. The check engine light is functioning but not on, and no codes when I checked, either (check engine light flashed continuously).

As I'm driving it, the car will occasionally run as normal, but only for a second or two.

I recently had the battery and alternator replaced, but everything seems to be working normally there.

How do I check the throttle position sensor?

How do I check the throttle position sensor?

You take a meter and ohm it out after taking it off your car. Probly have to find a repair manual for the resistance readings you should get, 90 to 140 to replace. I just replaced mine and I still get a similar problem. I have a 95 corolla with 64k miles on it. Ive taken the air filter off and and played with the throttle by hand, it starts and idles fine, but bogs out if I floor it. If I only increase it slowly, the car will run all the way up in rpms.
