We tried and checked everything. We took it to a mechanic and he took it up to the computer and no problems where found, he checked the alarm system and everything. We where thinking of installing a new alarm but they told us it would still sound the alarm. We thought it might be a cat but it goes off at work too. My neighbors are furious. Please help.

Hi,

Is this a factory alarm system or something added aftermarket? If it is factory, there are a few things to try. First, remove the battery from the key fobs for the vehicle overnight to see if it prevents the alarm from going off. If it doesn't go off, suspect a faulty key fob. If it still does, then there are a few things to check such as a theft deterrent module. This component recognizes the key fob and functions as an antenna basically which recognizes key code information. From that point, all software that controls the system are integral to what is called the body control module.

Both of these components would require scanner connection to prompt different conditions to see how the units react.

Let me know if this unit is a factory installed system.

I was hoping it was something simple. Was he able to scan the computer for you to check for diagnostic trouble codes?

Let me know.

Yes, he scanned it and said nothing showed up. That's why I was so confused. I thought maybe it's a fuse but I can't find it maybe it doesn't have one?

Please understand, without a code, this becomes a guessing game. The first thing that comes to mind is the theft deterrent module. It is located in the steering column. Here are directions for replacing it, but you will need to reprogram it if this is done. The pics below correlate with these directions. The first pic shows location and the second contains the directions. I don't want to mislead you. The module is what recognizes if the vehicle is being stolen and provides information to the ECU. All programming and control of the theft deterrent system is done by the ECU.

I hate to say it, but honestly, I recommend finding someone with a scanner that can read all codes. Perhaps the tech that checked it doesn't have the capabilities to read these codes and that's why nothing shows up. I don't want to start recommending that you replace parts that are most likely good. I hope you understand.

Let me know.
