But when I drive from time to time the check engine light turns on and off but the airbag light stays on. My car has previously been in an accident the the airbag was replaced but the light is still on. My question is, if I go and purchase a code reader to erase the code for the airbag and check engine light with the code erase and never show up or will it erase for sometime and pop up once again?

Good morning,

You can go to a parts store and have the codes read for free. Once I know the codes, I can narrow the area of failure.

Do not clear the codes. That does nothing. There is an issue that must be diagnosed, repairs made and then the codes can be cleared.

Hello, I just went to an auto shop for the code read and the only thing that showed up was the check engine light and it’s a code P0420. They said I need to replace catalytic converter, but it’s cost about $400.00 for the part alone. So is there anything I can do because I’m not trying to pay that much. Also, what should I do about the airbag light that’s on? Do you know how I would get charged to reset the airbag light?

They needed to access the airbag system for the code. They should have been able to read that.

As far as the catalytic converter, yes, you need one. I attached the part for you from Rock Auto. They run around $220.00 for the part and one hour for the labor.

Thank you. Is there a link to see catalytic converter for my car? The guy at AutoZone offered me to try a product called Cataclean for the code P0420 to see if it fixes the problem. Any idea if this is a good product?

No, that junk never works at all.

I attached an actual picture of the catalytic converter for you.

That is correct. Your car would be covered under the factory warranty.

I hope they did not clear the check engine light. If they did, you will need to wait until it comes back on again and then take it in.

But I didn’t purchase my car from a Honda dealership does that matter? Or I’m still protected under the warranty?

Factory warranty covers the car. Does not matter if you bought it used or new.
