The air intake hose was disconnected the last time I checked, I fixed the issue, however I do not know how long the engine was sucking in unfiltered air. The engine bay had a bad smell when I opened the hood.

Unfortunately, there is no way to know if there was damage done unless we have an indicator that there is an issue like the engine is making noise or some check engine light.

If there are no other indicators other then a smell that you had when you opened the hood, I would not worry about it until there is more to worry about. If you want to be extra cautious, you can go ahead and change the oil because any dirt that came into the air intake is going to go into the engine and make its way to the oil.

As for the smell, what did it smell like? Was it fuel, oil, or coolant?
