My low side runs at 60 plus and high side runs at 200. Condenser is clean, fans are running and the compressor is working ( I can hear it click in and out )Does not blow cold air at all when it is idling. I am on very low income and really cannot afford to take it to a shop, but I can work on about anything. Where do you think I should start looking for the problem or what do you think it might be. Thank you so very much for your help. P.S. I am glad I found your website. Keep up the good work.

It sounds overcharged to me. Low side pressure is about three times spec of 21-26 PSI for manual system and 16.5-24.5 for automatic.

Thank you so very much. Someone said it might be a part under the glove box that looks like a copper part four inches long that looks like it has a window looking plug in it. He said it could be plugged. Do you know the name of that and if that could be one of the problems if it is not over charged.

If it is what I am thinking it is, it is the evaporator thermos-witch. Essentially, the overcharge causes system components to freeze and things just stop working from there.

I do not think this system is overcharged. The high side does not reflect that. I would see what the pressure does when the engine is throttled up. If it drops down into normal range at two thousand RPMs, I would say the compressor is failing.

Even though Mitchell says the low side pressure is almost three times over spec Wrench? I will admit that I am not the world's best air conditioner expert, but spec is spec, right?

And yes, high side is basically dead on spec.

The low side is too high and in comparison, the high side is too low. Those are symptom of a compressor not keeping up at low RPM. If the system was overcharged, the high side would have been much higher also.
The only other thing that could explain those numbers is a stuck wide open expansion valve. The 2000 RPM test would answer that.

Okay, I knew I should have paid more attention in class all those years ago. Mitchell says high side should be between 185 and 213, which puts 200 dead in the middle.

That totally depends on the outside temperature, cooling fan speed and condenser condition.
It really is not that far off, but if you are going to attribute the low pressure reading to overcharge, the high side would be higher also. I would really like to know what it does at two thousand.
