Level 1 driver airbag fault high stop distance.
Hi, I have a Peugeot 3008 2011 1.6 HDI Sport. I have had a problem with the airbag light coming on and off. Any idea would help as I can't find out what the problem is. I have a five week babe in the car, I have changed the battery as the old one was low on voltage but did not show it on the dashboard. After new battery was put on airbag light comes on and off every couple of days?

Hi T.D. Did you have to jump start the car with the old battery? Or it cranked slow and your voltmeter showed low volts? Was charging system checked when new battery was installed? The reason I ask is overcharging can really affect electrical systems. You should definitely check charging and if that is okay, then have it scanned for codes on your airbag.

Hi Rol*s the car was cranking over slow now and again and the old battery was reading 11 volts. I also do very short journey to work may be about ten minutes drive. I put a new battery on and the volts is 12.5 the airbag now comes on now and again so not sure if the code needs clearing or it's the airbag?

Need to know battery volts amount while it is running. Charging systems are important for cars. You want about a volt more than battery volts while it runs. And want to make sure its not overcharging cause it tends to jack things up. Around 14 volts is good. You definitely don't want more than 14.5 volts. Also, sometimes the volts don't increase quite that high, but you do need an increase in volts every time the motor runs. If the charging volts are okay, you can try to clear the code by disconnecting and leaving the battery unconnected for about five minutes. Sometimes they clear. But make sure the charging is okay first. And if you see that air bag light when you know it shouldn't be illuminated, have it checked for codes.

Hey TD, if you find out the airbag does have a problem and want to go through repairing the system yourself. I can help you do that. Just borrow a scanner, get the code number and i'll post the chart for that code. Repairs vary, it could be a sensor, a module or the bag itself. We'd have to see what chart needs to be done.

Thank you. I will let you know the codes. I know someone with a scanner at work and will also test battery voltage out. It is funny I have been driving around today and no airbag light came on but yesterday I drove for about ten minutes and it came on and off on and of on and off the stayed on but when I turned engine off for a hour it gone again. I have jumped up down on all the seats and pulled all the seat belts really hard even drove round with all of them clipped in turned the steering wheel on full lock and back again still no light on. Only when I am driving gone over speed bumps and still does not come on only when the car is very warm inside?

Hi, I had my daughter in the car today and when she got out the car the airbag light came on and off quit a few times. I checked under the passenger side seat and can see this white push connector in the middle of the seat with two wires going in and coming out, but under the drives seat it does not have one. Not sure what this does. Could it be a loss connector? Can I unplug it and drive round to test the airbag? I will send a photo of under the drives seat too. Just trying to work out if it is this push fit connector.

Hi Rol*s, I had the scanner on the car today has airbag light came on and off but no codes showed up at all. So not sure what the problem could be. I noticed I lost power on to the way to get it scanned. In first, second and third gear while getting up to speed and getting to 2,000 rpm and on the scanner it say I need to replace two injectors has they are not working. So that's going to cost me over  500 to get them replaced will the others need replacing I can't afford to keep on paying out money. I've only had the car six months and 57,000 miles on the clock I am gutted. Also the electronic hand brake switch need replacing. Car is giving me a right headache.

All cars are difficult cars to own at one point or another. Can I ask if you moved the car when the battery was dead? Long story short to you turn the wheel and move the car with the engine running?

Hi Ken,

No the battery was not dead, it was very low on voltage. I moved the car with engine running airbag light comes on and off, but when it stays on it only stays on for about an hour. When I restart the car it stays off and I could be driving for a whole day then it comes back on again. Very strange can't work it out. Could it be a red herion or the ECU playing up the car? Went into limp mode a couple of months ago and with dirty air filter ran okay after that. But then airbag light came on a couple weeks later. When the car lost power on Monday the airbag light came on at the same time. But know code for airbag only injectors to be replaced. Still waiting for injectors to looked at by local Mechanic.

It is probably your clock spring they go out all the time, but to be sure lets check out this video which shows us how to run the codes:

https://youtu.be/gnSGfEqrf_w

This guide will walk you through the repair if it is the clockspring

Please run down this guide and report back.

Thank you. I will let you know what I find it say if your horn or radio controls and cruise control won't work it's the clock spring but all these are working okay on the stick controls. So I am a bit confused Peugeot wants over  450 for a new clock spring.

The under seat connections are for the airbag occupant detection. They simply tell the system if someone is in the seat, and if they are over a set weight it also sets the level that the air bag deploys at. So say a fifty pound child sets there the SRS will deploy the bag at a lower level than if a 200 pound adult is in the seat.

Because this started after a low battery was replaced and this is a Peugeot my first suspicion would be the airbag control module itself. They have a supplemental power source inside them in the event the main battery gets cut off during an accident. It's designed to only supply power for a short time. When the main battery gets low it can drain that internal unit, then when full power is restored with the new battery it doesn't re-charge the internal supply but instead damages the module.

For the problem you have with that code you need to find a shop that can fully scan the systems in it. That will likely require a dealer scan system as many euro vehicles use different connections for diagnostics on the restraint systems. The catch is that it will need to be scanned while the light is on, this is because the SRS system is a constant monitor system. It watches all the parts all the time. If it's something like a broken wire or a bad connection and it "fixes" itself and the light goes out, it may not show a code as the system thinks it is working fine. It will not show an active code and instead may show it as a memory code. That can be hard to find without the high end scan tool.
