Brakes problem
1996 Acura TL Front Wheel Drive Automatic 147000 miles

To clarify -- my car engine size is a 5 cyl. About 2 yrs. Ago, my ABS light came on and off and then it remained constant. I retrieved the trouble code from the OBD and found that the Acumulator Canister was leaking - I kept hearing the ABS pump on & off intermittently. After searching the internet for a replacement -- it was so expensive to replace a hi-pressure canister (acumulator) $229+. So I found an auto salvage place and got the whole ABS system unit for $135 or so. I replaced the whole unit and the ABS light went away and lasted for 2 yrs. Now I have to check the OBD to get the trouble code; to see what's the problem now with the ABS system. I seemed to forgot exactly where is the OBD connector is located and which terminals I can do a jump with a piece of wire or paper clip to get a repition reading of the blinking "check engine light". I know there is an OBD connector under the "coin tray" at the gears shift console.

If I find that the acumulator (canister) is leaking and/or malfunctioning; is this somekind of "recall" for this occurences. Thus, my car has 147k+ miles; is it worth to get a new acumulator (canister) for replacement? Is replacing this canister can be done at home or needs special tools? I see there's a 12mm bolt/srew on top of the canister. Any provided procedures in replacing the canister is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your help.

The connector is located under the dash, by the steering wheel column. It is a female connector with 2 pins only.
The 12mm bolt is for bleeding the system when air gets in it, which could be the cause of your problems. There is also a service bulletin which applies to this; SB 93-016.
You will need two people to do the procedure and a vacuum pump, so you might consider having it done by the dealer.
Good luck
