1999 Acura Integra 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual

I've been trying to figure out what cause my back bumper to be so dirty and why the oil gets really low. I dont run it hard either. I have tried taking it to high rpms to test it and thats when you can really notice the black smoke soot out. My new plugs turn black within the day as well. There is also a cel code p0420 that comes on after 20 min of driving. The tempature on the car seems fine now since replacing the thermal stat(not the sensor). Can someone tell me what I can do or websites that can help me. Thanks a bunch

Hi 916Gsr916,

If no leakages are present, oil are being burned up in the cylinders or out of the exhaust and this is usually due to worn valve seals allowing oil to get past them to go into the cylinders or exhaust ports.

This would result in grey smoke but in your case, you have a P0420, the smoke could be black as the catalytic converter is unable to fully burn the smoke resulting in black carbon coming out of the exhaust.

You should get the catalytic converter checked and/or replaced.
