My car alarm was installed 8 years ago and has been working perfectly until recently. The Siren stopped responding, so I ordered a new one. I snipped the old wires a day prior to installing the new siren and the alarm continued to work fine, as I installed the new one today I touched the two wires Pos/Neg from the alarm to my metal ratchet and I saw some sparks, of course I didnt disconnect the battery prior as I thought no voltage would be present. So now my alarm does not work at all, the valet switch does nothing, the remote gets no response and im not sure what to do now. Is my alarm shorted out somewhere?
Please help. Thanks

Hi intrazel,

Thank you for the donation.

The shorting should have blown a fuse. Check underdash for the alarm control module power supply, it should be an independent fuse holder.

Thanks for the reply. I checked a fuse holder just near the main fuse box under the steering wheel and it seemed fine. Should I change it anyway? Also, is there another fuse near the power supply as I only saw one black box that said Zone 1 Avital.

Thanks.

This is an after market alarm system and I do not know its wiring layout.

Test if you have power to the control unit, the black unit that you are referring to.
