This summer, my AC stopped working. Took it into a mechanic, they said my compressor had "exploded". Said it would be about 2000 to fix it. I decided to drive with no AC this summer. If I drove with it on, it would blow only warm air, and would make a loud, heavy "clunking" noise. Now, I can't even run the heat to de-fog my windows. The windows will de-fog, and quickly too, but if I do, there is that loud clunking noise I just described.

It gets louder and more frightening-sounding the longer I leave it on. Gets as loud as a chainsaw at times, and Im scared to drive with it on. Im sorry I cant be more helpful with my description.

Hi jodylee,

If the compressor is bad, you would need to get it replaced as the drive belt drives the alternator as well and if the compressor were to seize, you would get stranded.

There is no short cut to this.
