So my vehicle will work fine as long as I accelerate gradually but and soon and as I give it a little extra it will just shut off and I usually coast to the side of the road. My dad thinks it may be electrical but I have no clue. The check engine light will come on. Then I turn the key to off and then restart the car and it starts but still have to accelerate slowly. Check engine light turns off after be off for a while.

Hello, I'm Danny.

Regardless of the check engine light coming on and going off there is a fault code that is stored in your cars computer. The first thing you need to do is have the code(s) read.If you don't have a scanner/code reader your local auto parts stores have a tool loaner program and can rent you one. Here is a tutorial showing what is involved:

Once you have that done and get back to us with the code information we can properly diagnose your car.Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.

Hello again.

Yes, that code has to do with the throttle body and throttle actuator motor. The first thing (and least expensive) to do is clean the throttle body. Here is a tutorial showing what is involved:

I've attached a picture below. Repair suggestions are on the right.Hope this helps and thanks for using 2CarPros.
