AC inoperable

9/20017 zI took my vehicle to the dealership because the AC was not working. The mechanic said "AC compressor was burnt up". I never used my AC until recently, only to find it is still not working. I took it back today to the dealership, now they are telling me there is a leak in the compressor outlet line.

I asked if this was checked last year, they said yes but cannot offer me a diagnostic history which shows a pass/fail or even a visual inspection note of leaks not noticed. I did request pictures of the leak and awaiting for them to be sent.

Should this have been seen last year? I want to make sure I'm not being taken advantage of because I'm paying a deductible.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Found that the AC compressor was burnt up. Turned the AC on watched
the ac clutch not turning and red dust all around the pulley. Drained
the ac refrigerant, removed the ac compressor. Installed new updated
compressor, then installed a belt. Then filled the refrigerant to spec
tested all operation work properly. Ending mileage 32125

Good afternoon.

The outlet line was removed when they replaced the compressor. They should have checked the system for leaks after they installed the new compressor. Due to the amount of time that has passed, it sounds like it is out of warranty and they will not help you. You need to speak to the service manager about this and see what feedback he gives you.

Thanks so much Roy! The service adviser is telling me there was not a leak at that time. Is it possible a leak could have occurred from September to now? I have an extended warranty with having to pay a deductible which is still money.
I questioned the service adviser as to how the leak could have occurred within driving 5,000 miles he stuttered about a “thingy” and I asked if he just used the word “thingy” as a descriptive term to further insult to my intelligence as a human being.
I so appreciate your feedback and suggestions. This is very helpful having this platform to ask questions to some pros.

Okay, thanks.

Yes, it could develop a leak. It is hard to say when and if it did. The warranty company may question this when the claim is presented. If they send out an adjuster, that may force the issue.
