The P0537 trouble code in a 2007 Mercury Milan refers to an issue with the Ambient Air Temperature Sensor Circuit. The ambient air temperature sensor is responsible for measuring the temperature of the air surrounding the vehicle. This information is used by the engine control module (ECM) to adjust various parameters, including the air/fuel mixture and the automatic climate control system.
When the ECM detects a problem with the ambient air temperature sensor circuit, it will trigger the P0537 code and may illuminate the check engine light. The possible reasons for this code to be set include:
Faulty ambient air temperature sensor: The sensor itself may be malfunctioning, providing incorrect readings to the ECM.
Open or short circuit: There could be a problem with the wiring or connectors associated with the ambient air temperature sensor, causing an open circuit (broken wire) or a short circuit (wires touching where they shouldn't).
Corroded connectors: Corrosion on the sensor's electrical connectors can disrupt the signal and lead to the P0537 code.
Here is the location of the sensor so you can change it out. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.
