This is not recommended at all for a number of reasons. These clutches are pressed on and require special tools to remove and install and set up the spacing correctly. The clutches cost more than half of what a new compressor would cost and most of the time when the clutches fail they overheat and damage the front seal of the compressor anyway. There is also the issue of what caused it to fail in the first place Most of the time it happens because the compressor itself had started to freeze up for other reasons.
There is a whole lot more to consider in an AC failure than just the obvious damage. If the compressor had an internal failure, it will need a condenser also.
