Hello, I’m trying to help my mom fix her car, but I’m starting to have issues with it ever since I replaced the two front ABS wheel speed sensors on it as it had the ABS light on. After replacing the sensors and taking it for a test drive the light was still on then the speedometer gauge was shaky. Once the car got up to 20MPH the speedometer would stop working, then the cluster would light up with the power steering light, brake light, and TPS light. I thought it possibly was the brand of ABS sensors and changed brands but still same issue. I'm looking for any kind of help that I possibly could get now. Check engine code was also on as well and was giving me code p0500 which is for the Vehicle Speed Sensor. I looked on the transmission but had no luck with locating it. Pictures or anything else that would be helpful for me or anyone else experiencing this same deal would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

The vehicle speed sensor (VSS), is located on the top of the transmission (see diagram below).

The code P0500 can be due to a bad VSS. It can also be due to a faulty circuit for the VSS.

I have attached the diagnostic steps for the P0500 below. Follow those steps and it can help you determine the issue.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.
