Water pump failure, and subsequent blown head gasket. Compression test revealed five cylinders at 90 psi (dry test), and 120 psi (wet test). Remaining cylinder tested 60 psi (dry) and 90 psi (wet).

Are the compression test readings acceptable?

The heads have been removed, and the planned extent of repair is to (not necessarily in order):
- Clean up the heads (passages).
- Clean up the block (passages)
- Flush radiator and cooling system.
- Replace water pump.
- New oil and filter.
- New coolant and thermostat.
- New drive belt.
- New plugs and wire set.
- Using a cooling system flush.
- Using a motor flush?

No valve or seat work, no piston rings, or other internal work.

Is this a reasonable repair plan?

Good morning,

Since the compression came up with oil, your rings are worn and should be replaced.

Also, low compression would indicate possible valve failure. The heads should be sent to a machine shop for checking to be sure there are none leaking but 60 lbs are way too low.

Sounds like this is a complete overhaul.

If you do not do this, then you will be back to low compression again when you put it back together.
