Air conditioner Issue

The air conditioner works okay when the fan is not turned to high. And the temperature switch put to coldest setting. The cold air stops coming and the air conditioner light on the knob starts flashing. If we keep the fan just below high and the temperature just above bring all the way to coldest temperature then it works okay, but when it is really hot and the car is full of us and the kids it is just not enough.
Do I need to recharge?

Yes, I would have the system checked. It sounds like you are low in Freon.

Ty. How do I know how much to put in if I do it myself. And does the motor and ac need to be running when I do.

Ok, you cannot tell freon level by pressures. You need to have the freon removed from the system completely, evacuate the system of all moisture with a vacuum pump and then re charge with the correct amount. There should be a tag on the radiator support or firewall telling you the amount. Then you need to run the car as you install the exact amount required.
