A/C and defrost button not working

I am having problems with my ac and defrost. The buttons do not seem to turn on when I press them. The heater works just fine but no cold air what so ever. I checked the fuses, all seem to be fine. I am confused on what I should do or be looking for to fix this problem. Does recharging the system have anything to do with it? Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks.

You need to check the system freon level and test if the compressor is engaging when being activated.

If freon level is low, there should be a leak somewhere and has to be rectified. Recharging under such circumstances would be temporary at most.
