My vehicle has no pressure in the A/C system so I am wondering if a sniffer would work to help me find a leak when there has been no refrigerant in the lines for some time. Thanks, Dee

Hi,

If it has been an extended period of time, chances are it won't pick it up. In this case, you will likely need to partially charge the system to see if you can locate the leak. Actually, they make refrigerants with UV dye in them. That would be the easiest way and most likely the least expensive.

Dee, keep in mind, oftentimes when there is a leak, PAG oil leaks as well. That will often leave a residual indicator of a leak, so make sure to closely inspect all components specifically the condenser, which is located in front of the radiator.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

joe
