So I am replacing the CV axle on the driver side, and after I slide it in the transmission I notice it is about a inch short, just short enough to where I cannot even get the axle nut on at all. This is the second part I have tried. The first one I just returned thinking it was the wrong part. But now this time I am not to sure. Any suggestions?

Hey COSTELLO01,

Yes, remove the axle and use a wire brush on the splines in the bearing hub. The axle is not short it just the CV joint is not going into the bearing hub all the way. You could use a hammer, but it will damage the boot. So if you use a wire brush the spines will slide more easily.

Let me know hat happens.

Best, Ken

As Ken said, clean the splines, then apply a small amount of oil to them. They should slide into place so you can install the nut. Be sure to torque the nut down before you set the weight of the car back on it. On some of those hubs that can effect the bearing preload and damage the bearing.
