Almost a year ago my reverse went completely out. Then followed neutral and park turn into forward gears. And now my truck won't move in any selected gears, it just sits in the driveway because I don't have enough money to pay for an upgraded enough transmission. The fluid was nearly empty after my brother borrowed it for 3 weeks so I poured as much as I could In there with a cold engine. It won't start right now because it's dead, all other problems set aside, I can pull the transmission myself and work on it myself, but what exactly in the transmission sounds like the culprit. I was thinking about getting a rebuild kit, and new pump and torque converter.

Good evening,

Yes, that would be a start but there may be more damage internally. From being bad over a year, it could have progressive damage like a drum, band, or valve body issue.

This guide will help us fix it

Make sure all your electrical connections are good, check fluid to be full then scan for codes. For high idle clean throttle plate on both sides and iac hole with choke cleaner then check for vacuum leak.

The mlps, known as the neutral safety switch, could be out of adjustment, or the electrical end if it could be acting up. Possibly a good idea would be to replace the brake light switch, it's cheap, and relatively easy to do, see if it makes a difference

Has overdrive (button on steering column), three speed automatic transmission behind 351 W. Trouble shifting from first to second. If I go high revs then back off quickly it shifts. That is my only problem.

It sounds like it is struggling to build fluid pressure. Either it is really low on fluid (meaning there is a leak to be fixed), or it needs the fluid and filter changed. At that mileage, if it has not been changed at least once, then that is probably your problem.

I still believe that it is having trouble building pressure for one reason or another. If there is a dent in the transmission pan, that could cause an issue as well.

I am not big on transmission additives, but I have had decent luck with this stuff:

I do not see a 5.8l engine being offered in the 1998 F250, so my question has got to be is this the original transmission or not? If not, is it an electronic transmission with shift solenoids?
Or the old type transmission with I believe a intermediate band?

First I had a problem with the truck engine having a bad misfire while the transmission was fine.

I read codes and got a EPC electronic pressure control code. I found the bad wire coroded off at the trans harness connector, So I repaired and EPC code went away, Along with the misfire.

But now the transmission takes off in what seems to be 2 or 3rd while in OD range and other erratic behavior.

So currently I read codes and I get code 512, 121 and cannot seem to reset them by disconnecting the batt terminal.

One code is the eec processor keep alive memeory failed and theother is throttle position out of test range. The tps diagnostic is binding throttle, tps not seated, faulty tps and or faulty eca. Code 512 may have been done when you disconnected then reconnected battery. Check for a bad fuse or burnt fusible link.

I am going to assume this has the C6 transmission. Try adjusting the intermediate band. Loosen the lock-nut a few turns, while holding the screw. Tighten the adjustment screw down to 10 ft lbs. Then back off one and half turns. Hold the screw in this position while you tighten down the lock nut.

I checked fuse 13 which is a 15a and it was not blown. Can I check at PCM, Where is PCM.

Speedometer works, And transmission will only shift starting in 3rd to overdrive.
While in the Drive range.

I really need to take care of these issues.
How do I check KAM power at PCM?
