I want to use gt40 heads however I don’t know what cam to pair with this along with if I need to upgrade the springs. I need help picking a cam for improved power and gas mileage.

Hey there!

So, on that, it depends on the camshaft. I found one that I believe you can get away with using the gt40 springs with and should give you what you want.

Thanks Ryan,
I am using your 302 videos to build my first truck engine! Where do you recommend, I buy the gt40 heads? I don’t know if I should trust the rebuilt ones on eBay.

EBay is probably the easiest place to get them for cheap rebuilt. Otherwise, you would have to go pulling at a scrap yard then get them rebuilt. If you do go the eBay route, just go through a reputable seller and you should not have an issue.

Yes, I believe you could use the stock length since the camshaft is not super huge. However, I would put one cylinder's valvetrain together and rotate the engine over slowly by hand and see if it makes any kind of contact. You could even use playdoh under the head while you do that and see how much it gets squished if you are really worried about it.

Thanks for using 2CarPros!
