Engine idles rough and intermittently shuts off at idle or acceleration from stop. Coils, plugs, throttle body and engine mounts have been replaced.

Hi,

Does the check engine light stay on when the engine is running? If it does, have you checked for diagnostic trouble codes?

Next, often times an engine vacuum leak can cause this type of problem. Have you checked for leaks? Here is a link to help:

Let me know. Also, if there is anything you can think of that may help me diagnose, let me know.

Take care,
Joe

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the response. No codes. Once every 6-8 months the check engine light will pop on then off. When I pull the codes it is cylinder 6 misfire. I've replaced the injector for cylinder 6. Nothing changes. Would the intake manifold gasket cause rough idle? Car runs fine once moving. It's only at idle.

Hi,

As far as the number 6 cylinder, have you replaced the spark plugs, coils or anything other that may eliminate that issue from happening? I ask because that can cause a rough idle.

To answer your question, yes, an intake with a leak can cause the rough idle. Anything that allows unmetered air to enter the engine (vacuum leak) will create issues.

By any chance, do you have a live data scan tool? If you do, can you check what the short term fuel trims are and let me know? If there is a leak, I should be able to tell with those readings. Also, make sure things like the PCV hose and other vacuum hoses you can see aren't damaged or disconnected.

I attached a pic below and circled the PCV hose. Because if its location, it isn't uncommon for them to dry rot and leak, so check it.

If you want directions for the intake, let me know.

Joe
