rear wiper arm was snapped off in car wash . went to put new arm on, took the small nut off , there is a gear wheel, (i'll call it) that i can't turn or pull off . there is a gear wheel allready in the new arm... any ideas ? thankyou roy

The arm hole that is seated onto the wiper motor shaft is tapered with splines and tends to stick. You would need to pull the broken stub out with a puller if you do not have sufficient wiper arm length to use as leverage to rock it loose.
