When u started in the morning the first 10 -15 seconds u could hear a loud rathing noise then it quites down, if u turned off and don't wait to long it doesn't rathe but if u wait let say an hour it does it again.I had to change the oil from synt. To regular with the same specifications 5 w 30, can I use 10 w 30? The synthetic was been evaporated, in less than 3,000 miles of use the crank case only had 1.5 qts left. I thought seens I live in Puerto Rico the weather is really hot and that was probably why, then again thanks for the help :anthony

Heat won't effect oil usage in an engine have a local pro look at this it may be timing chain/pressure problem causing the noise.

Check for an oil leak.
Also, have the technician to check to see if the engine is consuming (burning) engine oil.

Equinox owners have been having problems with excess oil consumption. Notify your dealer of the problem and check online to see if there is a recall or a way to get the dealer to warrant the problem.
