Steel frames can be pulled straight on a frame machine. If a section has to be welded in, it must be understood there are curves, bends, and dimples that cause it to bend and give in specific places to absorb the forces of a crash. Strengthening those areas could result in a liability issue years later.

Aluminum frames can not be straightened because they will be weakened or crack. Sections must be unbolted or cut out to be replaced. They were also treated to prevent corrosion. That treating will not be present where it has been welded during a repair.
