After a long trip, Sydney to Melbourne and return we noticed that the engine was burning oil. There are no oil leaks under the vehicle, no black smoke from the exhaust. The oil we are currently using is Penrite 10W-50.
Our mechanic suggested changing to a 15W oil plus an additive. What is the cause and what needs to be done?

If there are no leaks, no smoke, but you are using a lot of oil, check to make sure there isn't any mixing with the engine coolant.

Let me know what you find and how much you are using.
