Vent Control Issues

When I turn on the windshield de-fog/de-frost the windshield vent opens as does the outside air floor vent. Where I live numerous vehicles operate so poorly tuned that with the outside vent open it's almost unbearable to drive behind them especially in slow lane of the freeway.

I bought this vehicle used in April 2009 with 12,000 mi on it from a well known reputable dealer. For the first 8 months the vent controls worked as described. Then, without me doing anything different or having any work done to the vehicle the vent control allowed me to toggle between inside/outside vent while in de-fog/de-frost mode. This continued until a month ago when I started experiencing the head lights intermittently dimming which the Dealer mechanic attributed to a failing battery. After replacing the battery the lights no longer dim and the vent control went back to operating normal, that does not, according to the dealer, allow toggling between inside/outside air.

I love this site :-)

It shouldn't do what you are experiencing. Unless you ahve screwed up the control from doing what you are saying by toggling. You have actuators which are controled by the control unit, defog/heat etc. If the ocntrolunit is screwed up then it opens the actuators and from your descrioption I thin this is what is happening. The only way to know for sure is to have this checked out as they are electrically operated. Pic enclosed.
