I have a 2007 VW Beetle. When the heater is on for an hour or so, the dash gets really hot and the CD player shuts off. When I take the disk out, it is extremely hot. There is also a clicking noise, like when the turn signals are on, but when I push the hazard button in the middle of the dash, the erratic clicking becomes the normal clicking noise.
What could be wrong?

First, make sure the duct work for the heater is all connected. If one of the vents are loose, it can cause the CD to overheat as well as the dash getting hot. If you smell something electrical burning, that is a different story, but I don't think that is the issue.

The clicking noise could be a relay. Try to locate where the noise is coming from and check that relay. When you locate the relay, feel it and you will actually feel it ticking. That way you know you have the right one.
