My 2007 Corolla is making a "pinging" sound after it runs for about 20 minutes. sounds like the last few kernels of popcorn popping or the pinging noise you'd hear from under the hood after you turn the car off. It only makes the noise when the car is moving, not when idling at a stoplight. What could this be? thanks.

Hello,

Is it possible to upload a video? So we can hear what it sounds like.

The typical pinging sound is due to improper engine combustion. Which typically happens when the air/fuel mixture combusts too early.

It usually sounds like a bunch of marbles in a tin can moving around.

Engine pinging can happen due to using incorrect fuel. If the fuel has a lower octane than the recommended level, then the pinging can occur.

Many times, this will turn on the check engine light.
If the engine light is on, it will be a good idea to scan and retrieve the codes as that will help with the diagnostics.

Thank you.
