Have you tried seeing if both heater hoses going into the fire wall get hot like I suggested?You said the engine gets to normal operating temp so I wouldnt suspect a thermostat issue. Also the heater feeds for coolant bypass the thermostat anyways.

I have one hose at the firewall that is hot and one that is cold

Then it sounds like your heater core is restricted.
