I have broken the cable that controls the air flow from the heater/air conditioner in the cabin of my 2007 Saturn Ion. It was replaced for over $250.00. I have also been told that the "door" is sticking and that if I don't replace the "Heater Box" for approximately $800.00 I will just break the cable again and again. I can't figure out why I need to replace the whole heater box for a sticky door. Can you help me understand or correction the information I have been given.

He stated it was only sticking. I can only assume that it is binding, not broken.

It has to be binding for a reason I have never really ran into any of those doors binding before. If the cable broke because of the binding its most likely broken. How hard is it to move the control to move to the different airflow positions?

It had been very difficult to move the control. Since I had the cable replaced and they diagnosed this as a problem, I asked them to manually move the door to the defrost position till I could fix/replace whatever and I have not moved it since. With the high temperatures of heat now I would love to have the option for air conditioning. Turning the AC on now only makes frost on the inside of the car windshield. That was a mighty expensive cable for a senior citizen. I did not want to do it again unnecessarily.

If you move the control knob you find were the cable hooks up and move the door to face so you can enjoy your ac. So do you live in California?
