The front end of my 07 jeep wrangler stats to shake really bad while driving. If I engage the 4wd then go back to 2wd it ok. For a bit. Any ideas?

I'm here to assist you!

Look at your steering components--insure everything is tight, and there is no slop in joints etc.

What about your driveshaft UNIVERSAL JOINTS ("U" JOINTS), are they in CORRECT WORKING ORDER?

Same tires on all rims?

Bent Rim?

Tire pressure Right---All tires?

Tire condition--have you broken a belt. Raise wheel, ever so slightly off of the ground (just barely scuffing the ground) Spin it by hand, Does it Grab the ground. Hard in one spot? It may have a damaged belt (commonly called a "Goose Egg")

More involved--swap the wheels from front to rear. Has the shaking stopped, or changed?

Are you missing wheel weights?--Get rebalanced

Is there a Glob of MUD on your rim or inside the rim. Out of balance, remove the GLOB!

Are BOTH of your Wheels unlocking, when not in 4X4? (If your rig is out of 4X4, and you raise your front end, spinning your wheel---should not move (the axle on either end, I'M NOT SPEAKING OF THE DRIVESHAFT, because if one axle is locked in, MIGHT SPIN THE OTHER END OF THE UNLOCKED AXLE [Differential Action] without moving the driveshaft

Imma CJ kinda Guy, I do not know what your front joints look like exactly, but on a CJ this is the "Knuckle Joint or U joint" that should not be moving, if the wheel is spun (tips of my fingers) Wheel is to the right (this is drivers side knuckle, viewed from the front) ---if it's unlocked (both sides should remain stationary) MINE ARE MANUAL. BUT UNLOCKED IS. UNLOCKED!

If there is a Test you do not know how to check, let me know, I may can help. Just ask, I'm here to HELP!

Your Turn

Medic,
Thanks for getting back to me. I checked all undercaridge joints and fittings and all lok fine. I am not sure that any of the other are my issue either, the "shaking" is not constant. I will be driving along fine then. Shake, shake, shake it goes without warning. If I try driving away still shaking, but if I engage the 4wd then back to 2wd and drive away no issues. Any more ideas?

ONCE WE WERE CRAWLING AROUND AT FT. BARTLOW (SAVANNAH, GA.) AT THE TIME AN "UN-EXCAVATED" CIVIL WAR BATTERY--SORTA ABANDONED---WE ONLY FOUND IT THROUGH OUR SUPER AIRBORNE RANGER NAVIGATIONAL SKILLS!

SEEMS THAT FT. PULASKI (THE SHOW-CASE NATIONAL MONUMENT, HEADED TOWARD THE BEACH) HAD ANCIENT MAPS OF THE AREA DISPLAYED---AND THEY SHOWED THE BATTERY ON THEM--BUT IT WAS GROWN OVER AND BURIED IN SAND---KINDA LIKE A LOST CIVILIZATION!

WE CRAWLED OVER THE "MOATS AND BARRICADES" A LOT (MEANT FOR NON JEEP PEOPLE!)AND PLAYED IN THE BATTERY FROM TIME TO TIME. USUALLY FEMALES WERE INVOLVED!

THERE WAS A DEEP DEPRESSION IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FORT (OVERGROWN AND JUST LOOKED FUNNY. SAVANNAH IS FLAT!), WE CALLED IT, "THE DEVILS BOWL"

MY BUDDY HAD A CJ7 AND HAD MORE RISK IN HIM, THAN I, SO HE WENT IN IT 1ST

WHEN HE CLIMBED OUT, I WENT (CJ5). WHEN I TRIED TO CLIMB OUT, I GOT A TERRIBLE GRINDING NOISE.I FINALLY HAD TO BACK OUT, TO GET OUT

ON THE WAY TO THE BARRACKS, MAYBE 10 MILES AWAY, I EXPERIENCED A LOT OF VIBRATION. NO GRINDING

WHEN I INVESTIGATED IT THE NEXT MORNING, I FOUND MY BOLTS THAT ANCHORED THE TRANNY TO THE SKID PLATE WERE GONE!

THE REAR OF ENGINE/ TRANNY/ AND TRANSFER CASE WERE SLIDING LEFT AND RIGHT ON THE SKID PLATE----THE GRINDING WAS MY FRONT DRIVE SHAFT (WHEN IN 4x4) HITTING SOMETHING ON THE FRAME (WHILE IT WAS TURNING) WHILE IT WAS SLID TOWARD THE PASSENGER SIDE!

WHAT A SENSELESS STORY (YOU SAY!)----ANY POSSIBILITY OF SOMETHING SIMILAR TO THIS?

Not too sure, I have not had it off roading too much. We went driving today, in the snow, was out for several hours in and out of 4wd. No issues at all! It has only happened three times over the past couple weeks, but the rest of the time no shaking at all. I've done in town, hwy, and alittle 4wheeling (today), I guess I will have to take it to the dealership. I really hate to, I like doing my own tinkering, but I'm leaving soon and need it fixed so my wife doesn't have to deal with it. Thanks for your advise, if you come up with anything else give me a shout.
