Is a little lateral play normal in the rear drive axle?

I just replaced the rear brake pads and rotors on my 2007 4x4 Dodge Ram quad cab.

Before lowering the vehicle I notice a small abount of laqteral play in the drive axle. Gripping the hub it would move in an out slightly. There was no play up and down as if testing the bearings. After pumping the brakes and seating the pads the play was minimized but still a slight amount of play. Is this normal?

Normal play for the differential. Nothing to worry about.

Sigh of relief, curious do the bearings move within their housing along with the axle shaft? I cant imaging the shaft sliding through the bearings.

The shaft rides on the bearings. It will move a little in and out.

It is a normal condition
