Cruise control not working

The cruise control does not work in my car listed above. The light on the dash for the rear defrost comes on when I press the button when then goes out when I release the button. Are these problems connected and how do I find out what is wrong?

The short answer is no they are not related. Let's focus on the cruise control not working. Most likely and the most common cause of this is the brake light switch is not functioning correctly.

Here is the information on this switch so I would suggest we start with this and go from there. Thanks
