2007 Chevrolet HHR starting

I cannot get the car to start. L am being told its the cylenode it keeps spinning and won't grasp to the alternator. Is this the problem or how do I gix it?I havr trying to fix this problem now for three days with no results and I need to sell the car to put some money towards my daughters college tuition. Please help asap!

The alternator has nothing to o with it starting. So does the engine crank/spin over and not start?Or can you just hear the starter spinning?But not spinning the engine over?Trieing to understand what your car is doing.

If you can hear the starter spinning without the engine spinning over sounds like a bad starter.
