I have a 2006 Volvo S60. Saturday, when I went to start it, the key would turn no further than the accessories. I could not even take the car out of park, and had to have it towed to the shop.

They are telling me they will need to order a new ignition locking system from dealer, who in turn must order it from the facotry, that it has to be new because of the programing wiht the key and all. Is this the fact? Or can a used one be put in? What options do I have, and do you know a ball park of what this should cost?

There is no programming involved but the steering column lock does need to be ordered from the factory since there is a key code to assemble it. That just makes sure that you do not need get a key also to program. So make sure they are not charging you for programming since that is not necessary. The only thing needing programming would be a key had you lost it or a control unit that needed to be replaced. Hope this helps you out and let me know if there is anything else.
