I had the turbo replaced on my daughters Subaru. Within 2 miles of the shop the car stopped running. I have since found out it was a broken piston. The shop says that because the turbo was new, the engine wasn't used to the power and therefore broke. Is this possible?

It very well could be but it may have been cracked to begin with and if a compression check wasn't done which there really wouldn't be a reason to on a turbo replacement then the answer is yes because the new turbo would put more boost to the engine from the bad one.
