Hi your shifter needs adjusted. You can do this at the transmission. Put vehicle in park loosen adjuster now push shifter as far as it will go toward park. Now tighten adjuster this should solve the problem.

Just to add this one the bitsi cable aka the cable that keeps you from turning the key off while the shifter is in any other gear but park. That is a seperate cable from the actual shifter cable that shifts the transmission into each gear while moving the shifter. Also it has its own adjustment inside the cabin of the vechile. Its just forward of the shifter. One of two things is most likely happening the shifter is sticking and not letting that cable move enough to turn the key off. Or the cable is out of adjustment.I have never had to adjust the actual shifter cable to correct your concern and cant see why I would have to. The first thing I would check is if the shifter was sticking inside. Next time the key doesnt turn off instead of hitting the shifter try pressing the release button over and over see if the key turns off. Let me know what you find.
