I replaced my water pump and i'm having overheating problems, i'm pretty sure I need to replace my head gasket, are there any other issues I should have checked when the valve cover is off?

First, replace the thermostat and bleed the system.

Next, get a leak down test done to verify the head gasket.

Why did you replace the head gasket? Did it overheat?
