Check engine light came on so first thing I did was check fluid levels. When I opened the bonnet of the car, even after driving 15 minutes, it was cold. Dashboard temp gauge was reading normal, antifreeze and oil levels okay.

The check engine light comes on when the computer recognizes a fault with one of the many sensors in the vehicle. What you need to do is have the computer scanned for trouble codes. Most parts stores will do it for free. Once scanned, you will then have a trouble code. From that trouble code, you should have a good idea what caused the light to come on.

Have it scanned and let me know what you find.
