Could this be anything other then a need for a new started

2006 JEEP LIBERTY V6, JUST FINISHED A HEAD GASKET JOB, DOUBLE CHECKED ALL CONNECTIONS, IT WONT START ! THE BATTERY HAS 12.26 VOLTS, HEADLIGHTS WORK STRONG, STARTER MAKING CLICKING SOUND, ENGINE NOT TURNING OVER.

Make sure there is 12 volts to the smaller wire on the starter when the key is in the start position. If there is, have the starter bench tested. Make sure all connections are clean and tight.

Wow big problem, I checked voltage and determined it was the battery. New battery engine starts (yay). Engine doesn't idle correctly, as we give it gas, the engine hesitates but doesn't stall. I got engine code for the knock sensor, and camshaft control sensor. Bank 1 and bank 2 , to further this, the car was driven and smoke/flames from engine. I haven't seen the car yet, but where do I start?
