S Type will not start after changing the starter. The car would not start, it was making a single clicking noise. Took out the battery, had it checked at the autoparts store and the battery was good. Replaced starter and the car will start when I make contact underneath with the starter but will not crank from the ignition.

Sounds like you forgot to hook up a wire. Or the relay is bad.

Its the long red cable (about 12 foot in length) that runs from a junction box in the trunk to a wire that goes to the starter Part # 4-R8T14303BC.

Does anyone know the name of this cable?

The battery is in the trunk, right? That's the starter main power cable. Thick as a finger? Yep. Starter cable.

Between 4 and 8. Depending on current needs. It never hurts to go bigger, but don't go smaller.
